The Somerset Police Department provides law enforcement service within the jurisdictional boundaries of the City of Somerset, TX 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Additionally, Somerset Police Department Officers are available to assist surrounding law enforcement agencies as the need arises or upon request.

The Somerset Police Department maintains a cadre of approximately 10 Reserve Police Officers.  These Officers are fully licensed Texas Peace Officers and possess the same training and arrest authority as our Full-Time Police Officers.

SOMPD Reserve Police Officer Hiring Process

1) Complete and turn in a City of Somerset Application and a TCOLE Personal History Statement (PHS) and all supporting documents.

2) Preliminary Background and Qualifications Check

3) Structured Officer Panel Interview

4) Thorough Background Investigation

5) Admin Interview

6) ***Medical and Psychological Exams (New Peace Officer or P.O. with 180-day break in service or more; to be paid for by the applicant)***


7) Final Selection/Recommendation to City Administrator, Mayor and City Council for Appointment as a Reserve Somerset Police Officer
